Martha provides advice on incorporation, governance and compliance to societies of all kinds in the Province of BC as well as Not-for-Profit Corporations federally. She is a recognized expert on the Societies Act having lectured on the topic to more than 3000 societies from Ucluelet to Williams Lake, Prince George and Cranbrook and all points in between, Co-chair of the CLEBC Charities and Non Profit Bi-Annual Conference. Member, National Advisory Committee on the Charitable Sector.
Over her ten years as a labour, employment and human rights lawyer she provided strategic and practical advice to many non-profits on managing their employment relationships. She appeared before arbitrators as well as before the Courts. An expert on the application of the Human Rights Code, she has taught workshops on investigating human rights complaints and written about sexual harassment and the law. She has assisted many non profits with their employment matters.
Her employment and human rights practice inform her work as a solicitor. With more than 25 years experience in the sector she understands the impact that many decisions have on the sector. Her advice is tailored to the needs of the society and its budget.
Her expertise in copyright and other intellectual property matters enables her to provide expert advice to non profits on a range of 21st century issues including terms of use and IT security.
